Frequently Asked Questions

If we are committing to Renovation, how does this change my giving to missions, the general fund, and other special offerings?

During this two-year period, every contribution to God through BT Church is a contribution to our Renovation Initiative. This means that everything from our general ministry budget, community events, local and global missions, and even campus expansion will be fueled through the Renovation Initiative. Therefore, every contribution for the next two years will be our collective expression of generosity in response to God working in us and through us.

What are you asking me to do?

First and foremost, we are asking that you pray and follow God’s lead on what he is asking of you. Prepare your heart to hear him, and then listen to what he says. Engage in a Community Group during this season, if you haven’t already. Spend time in personal reflection with God in this Renovation Book. Talk with your spouse, family, and others about what this commitment will mean for this next exciting season of your life. We are asking that you make a sacrificial commitment to generosity—whatever it is that God leads you to do. Follow his leading. Finally, we ask that you prepare to be transformed. It is an awesome God that we serve, and he is going to move in huge ways as we anticipate an unprecedented impact from our collective Renovation commitments—something only God can do. Plan to be here for every week of the Renovation series beginning February 26, and pray about returning your commitment card on Sunday, April 2. Our prayer is that you genuinely take a fresh look at your generosity and that this Renovation Initiative marks a defining moment in your life and the life of our church.

Are there additional ways besides cash that I can give more towards Renovation?

Be creative as you explore ways you and your family can give towards Renovation. You might have some stocks, property, or even some stored resources that God has blessed you with and might be calling you to be generous with during this time. Please let us know if you need assistance with facilitating gifts of property or stock, and we would be happy to help you with that. You can contact Jenny Newcomb at jenny.newcomb@bt.church to make a gift of this type.

How long is my committment?

We are asking that everyone make a two-year commitment which is 24 months. The fulfillment period for your commitment will begin on Sunday, April 30, 2023 and it will culminate in April of 2025.

What if I am severely in debt right now? Am I still supposed to give?

If you are someone currently seeking to make payments to pay off debt right now, we commend you for making progress on that. And you should continue to do so. Throughout this generosity initiative to assist and equip you we will conduct classes. Keep in mind that giving isn’t about what God wants from you but rather what he wants for you, and look for creative ways that you can sacrifice to participate in the Renovation Initiative.

What if I have never given to BT Church before?

Renovation was crafted specifically with you in mind. Renovation is a “one fund” generosity initiative, meaning that it is different from a traditional capital campaign where you are called to give an extra gift above and beyond your normal giving—thus creating two steps for people who aren’t yet giving. Renovation is a call to sacrificial, God glorifying generosity.

What if I’m new around here?

Renovation is about the vision for our church and our personal discipleship in giving as followers of Jesus. We believe that the local church has one of the most critical missions to give towards, and we would really love for you to make BT Church your home and join us in Renovation. If you are ready for it, this is a perfect time for you to put a stake in the ground and make this your church. We would love you on the team!

What if I haven’t been baptized yet?

Great question. People take different spiritual steps at different times. Some people begin praying before they begin attending church. Others begin going to a Community Group before they begin talking to God in prayer. Giving is another spiritual step, and it comes at different times for different people. One thing is for sure, however. Just like other spiritual disciplines, giving draws us closer to God. And God is calling ALL of us to give. The Bible says: “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”(Matthew 6:21). Whether you have taken the spiritual step of baptism or whether you haven’t yet, we would encourage you to still join us in this Renovation Initiative. We firmly believe that it will draw you closer to God and hopefully to a place where you are ready to make the decision to be baptized and to surrender your life to Christ. Anytime you’re ready to make that decision, we’ll be ready to celebrate!

Is Renovation just about money?

Renovation is a generosity initiative that will enable us to fulfill the vision God has given us to make a greater impact for him and will position us to continue leading people to live transformed lives. Of course, generosity includes money, but it’s much more than that. We are asking for everyone who calls BT Church home to surrender to the Spirit in a way that challenges you to take all aspects of your generosity (time, talent, and treasure) to a new level. Renovation is not just about money, but discipleship always includes how we manage what God has entrusted to us. Another translation of Matthew 6:21 says, “The place where your treasure is, is the place you will most want to be. ”Money is THE litmus test to indicate where our hearts are. We pray each of our hearts have a kingdom impact at the forefront.
